What Is Google Places?

Article courtesy of Noodlehead Marketing.

Google Places allows business owners to add a new listing to or edit an existing listing in Google’s database. In addition, it allows you to provide additional details like photos, hours and coupons, all of which are designed to allow local business owners to stand out on the map and attract more customers. There is also a Place Page that helps users find information including business listing details, reviews, photos, directions and even nearby transit.

When a consumer was looking for information about a business in the past, they picked up the large free directory of businesses conveniently provided to them by their phone company. By it’s nature, it was a local directory. In a digital comparison to those oh so familiar Yellow Pages, think of Google Listings (also known as Local Business Center) as the basic listing, company name and contact information. Google Places would be the equivalent of a full-page color advertisement - only it’s interactive and free. Google offers a great step by step guide to setting up your Places page here.
